What's Not Included

Most Faye insurance policies have optional add-ons. In the following section, we will delve into the details. For now, these are the primary exclusions that Faye Insurance policies may include:

Travel to restricted areas. Faye covers almost every country in the world but we advise you to check the U.S. State Department travel advisory before purchasing insurance.

Countries covered. Only American citizens and residents can purchase Faye travel insurance.

State restrictions. Some benefits are not available for purchase in all states and some policy limits may differ by state.
in all states.

Insurance Plans

Faye is distinct from other travel insurance companies in that they don’t offer a set of predetermined insurance plans for you to choose from.

Instead, each plan is customizable. The basic offering includes coverage for your trip, your health, and your belongings. You can then enhance your plan with add-ons for additional protection. This ensures that you’re not over or underinsured, and you won’t be paying for things you simply don’t need. However, we always recommend you understand your policy and what’s covered before the purchase.

Extras

These are the primary add-ons you can include in your insurance policy, excluding the adventure sports coverage, which we will discuss in the next section.

Cancel for any reason. You can be reimbursed for up to 75% of non-refundable trip expenses if you cancel your trip for any reason (up to 48 hrs prior to departure).

Rental car care. You can be reimbursed up to $50K in accidental damage and theft related to your rental vehicle.

Pet care. You can be reimbursed up to $2,500 in veterinary expenses and $250 for kenneling if you arrive back home later than expected.

Vacation rental damage protection. You can be reimbursed up to $3,000 in repair/replacement costs if you accidentally damage the rental you’re staying in, or its contents, while in-trip.

Adventure & Extreme Sports Protection

With their Adventure & Extreme Sports add-on, Faye offers the option to add protection to your base policy for medical expenses in the event of injury while participating in the following activities. Please note that they provide coverage for certain activities that other insurance companies may not, such as B.A.S.E jumping, wingsuit flying, or free soloing.

  • B.A.S.E. jumping, Cliff diving
  • Bull riding, Running of the bulls
  • Bungee jumping
  • Hot air ballooning
  • Parachuting, Skydiving
  • Fly-by-wire
  • Paragliding, Hang gliding

  • Any activity materially similar to the above

Pricing

Prices depend on the duration and cost of your trip, the destination you travel to, your state of residence, your age, and the additional extras you choose to include.

Just to give you an idea, a policy for a $2,000 week-long trip to Peru for a 40-year-old male from Florida will cost approximately $147 without any extras, and $201 if you add the adventure sports protection.

For accurate pricing, please get a quote for your trip on the Faye website.

What's Covered & Who's Eligible

The main limitation of Faye is that their insurance policies are only offered to US citizens and residents. Let’s look at the specifics.

Nationalities: Only US citizens and residents are eligible.

Pre-existing conditions: Pre-existing conditions can be covered for Trip Cancellations and Interruptions, as long as you purchase your plan within 14 days of your initial trip deposit, and are medically able to travel when you purchase your plan.

Seniors Over 65: There is no maximum age limit.

Trip Duration: All plans cover trips up to 180 days.

Groups: Insurance policies for solo travelers, couples and families are available.

User Reviews and Testimonials

Insurance companies often receive negative online reviews due to issues such as complicated policy language, claim denials, slow processing times, and perceived unfair practices.

Faye is no exception, and although they do receive some negative feedback, overall, they have more positive reviews than many other insurance companies.

About the Author

Antonio was born and raised in Southern Spain, and quit his job in 2013 to travel the world full-time with his wife Amanda for 10 years straight. Their passion for adventure took them to visit 150+ countries.

They cycled 25,000km + from California to Patagonia, sailed over 10,000NM around the Caribbean & Sea of Cortez, rode their motorbikes 30,000 kms+ across West Africa (Spain to South Africa) and visited Antarctica, among many other adventure expeditions. Today, they’re still traveling,  currently around the USA with an RV.

Traveling to so many places, remote destinations and by different means taught them a lot about travel insurance, which policies to hold depending on the area and the type of adventure they were doing. Antonio now publishes regular content to help other travelers choose the best travel insurance for adventure trips.

Together, they also run the travel community Summit, the RV site Hitched Up, the boutique accommodation blog Unique Places and the popular newsletter Adventure Fix, where they share their knowledge about the places they’ve visited and the ones still remaining on their list.
